Another handy feature to look for on some models, especially Braun, is the built in filter which frees you from having to constantly buy paper filters.  You simply put the coffee into the machine as you normally would, but without a paper filter.  To clean you just empty the grinds into the trash or rubbish bin and clean the rest of the removable piece off in the sink.  An additional handy feature that is now available on more and more units is the pause feature, which allows you to pause the filling of the pot so that you can insert your coffee cup and get a hot cup before the brewing cycle is complete.  I can’t tell you how many times I witnessed colleagues at work attempting this and making a huge mess in the process, because those machines did not have a pause feature.  If you aren’t quick enough the coffee gets all over the place and you may end up with burnt coffee on the warming plate under the pot if you don’t take the time to wipe it while holding the pot under the dripping coffee suspended so that you can get a towel or rag under it.  The pause feature is a welcome addition to these machines.

Four cup models are also great for hotel rooms, college dorm rooms, vacation or country homes, mobile homes and RV’s, bachelor pads, or anywhere else where the living space is scarce.  They are good for couples and small families, or groups where some people enjoy coffee while others prefer tea and rely on a water boiling kettle for their hot beverage needs.
